Choosing Where to Start

Blue Cross offers pet-loss support across species. Paws to Listen is Cats Protection’s service for people affected by the loss of a cat. Their volunteer listening service does not provide counselling or veterinary advice. You can contact a service even if you are unsure what to say.

If you prefer writing to speaking, use the contact options on the service’s own website. Please check current opening times there before contacting them.

When You Need More Support

If you are struggling to cope or grief is making everyday life difficult, talk to your GP about support. Pet-loss listening services can be helpful, but they do not replace healthcare or urgent help.

NHS guidance on grief, bereavement and loss explains further options. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.

Questions About Your Pet’s Care

Your veterinary practice is the right place to ask about treatment, an end-of-life appointment, aftercare or an unexplained change in a surviving pet. You can ask for a follow-up conversation if questions arise after an appointment.
